San Bernardo del Viento

Description of the Work of Art

San Bernardo del Viento is the name of a small town located on the Caribbean coast of Colombia as well as the origin of my paternal lineage. Years of returning to the same place made me come to the conclusion that reality not always turns out as the fiction movie which brings with it a beginning, a crux and an end. This work is an invitation to return to the bare simplicity. A place to observe and listen to the folklore, an invitation to feel light, to feel still. This work is the portrait of an imaginary that bores, that gets bored, but that we accept as it is. A place isolated from the world and untouched by the Impermanence of time. A place part of a solitary ceremony, full of statism, recurring sounds, and repeated burials with the exact same chants and costumes of yesteryear. San Bernardo is the opposite from the city where everything expires and gets replaced. It helps remember that objects can be repaired. That love can repair. That friendship can repair. That humor can repair and also, that retreating in silence can make us grow. In that town, you don’t wait for something special to happen; fishermen fish, hammocks rock, children play, palm tree grow coconuts and peasants gather them. San Bernardo always ends up offering the same results, the same answers to the very same questions. But, entering San Bernardo del Viento is like entering a meditation. It changes you… everytime.
